PEORIA, IL (HOI) — Over 58,000 were harvested during the first weekend of firearm deer season in Illinois, according to numbers from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
That means hunters took more than 7,000 more deer than those hunted during the first firearm weekend of 2017.
589 deer were harvested in Peoria County, compared to 527 last year.
Hunters caught 78 more deer in McLean County (405), than they harvested in 2017 (327).
Numbers stayed about the same in Tazewell County 352 deer harvested over the weekend (332 in 2017).
Firearm deer hunting season runs until the weekend of November 29 – December 2.
