Red Wreath Campaign Is Back Again

Peoria’s Fire Department is back with their holiday campaign to keep track of building fires for the next month.

Peoria’s Fire Department will hang a wreath which will be decorated with red light bulbs all over. Every time there’s a building fire, the firefighter will replace a red bulb with a white one.

According to the Peoria Fire Chief, Ed Oley, “We’ve had some good years, keeping the wreath red for a good portion of it.”

The fire department has kept this tradition alive every year since 1995. The goal is to keep the wreath red and keep the number of building fires down.

“We’ve never had a year that I know of, that we’ve been able to keep it red all month long. Of course, that would be our goal is that we don’t take one white bulb out of it,” said Oley

12 Peoria stations are participating this year. The campaign ends January 1, 2019.
