Peoria City and Peoria County emergency communication center is equipped with technology that can receive and reply to texts.
According to the manager, this feature comes in handy to people who have speaking or hearing difficulties, as well as people who are hiding.
Even though most of us would rather send a text than make a call, calling is still the best option if possible.
Emergency Communication Center Manager, David Tuttle, explained the rationale behind this technological move.
“We would still encourage them to do that so that we can have that quick conversation between both parties, our staff and the caller, to provide them the help as quickly as possible,” he said.
Tuttle also said he expects the center to receive more and more texts every year.
The service could see some upgrades this spring.
