Daycare responds after wrong child taken by social service agency

PEORIA, Ill. (HOI) — A Peoria daycare is commenting after a mother alleges her child was wrongly taken by a social service agency from their facility.

Fun n Fit said a “perfect storm of flawed processes and unfortunate events led to the wrong child being transported from our preschool by Lutheran Social Services earlier this week.”

Mother Terri Langfeldt said Lutheran Social Services of Illinois came during nap time at Fun n Fit, flashed a badge, and took her 3-year-old daughter, instead of the correct child. for a family visit. Langfeldt said the other mother spoke up to say it was not her child upon her arrival.

Lutheran Social Service Agencies said they reported the matter to DCFS and are conducting their own internal investigation.

The daycare said they would work to create a “better solution for the pickup process between foster children, childcare centers, and social service agencies.”

The full statement from Fun n Fit:

A perfect storm of flawed processes and unfortunate events led to the wrong child being transported from our preschool by Lutheran Social Services earlier this week.

We are all extremely disheartened by what happened and thankful that no one was hurt.

Since the onset, we have been in continued contact with the parent of the child, who is an employee of ours, as well as Lutheran Social Services to continue our investigation.

We are confident that a positive outcome will stem from this mishap . We will work with all necessary parties to create a better solution for the pickup process between foster children, childcare centers and social service agencies.
