UPDATE: Suspect arrested; late night Pekin standoff ends peacefully

UPDATE 9 AM: The Pekin Police Department said Brian Bearce, 37, was arrested for domestic battery and motor vehicle theft after last night’s standoff incident.

Police first responded to the 1700 block of Lamar around 8:30 p.m. for a domestic battery report. Bearce reportedly took a family member’s vehicle without permission. It was reported Bearce may also be armed with a handgun.

The Tazewell County Sheriff’s Office terminated a short pursuit after attempting a traffic stop. Later, the Pekin Police Department followed the vehicle in a short, low speed pursuit until it stopped in the 2900 block of S. 14th, near Amy’s Country Manor.

Police arrested Bearce just after midnight without further incident.

1:43 AM UPDATE: A man is in custody after a police chase and standoff outside of a Pekin retirement community home.

Our cameras were there, when the unnamed suspect surrendered around 12:15 AM Tuesday morning, outside of Amy’s Country Manor on 14th Street in Pekin.

Police tell us the man was involved in a battery investigation in Pekin, and then fled in a family vehicle.

A short chase ensued with Tazewell County Sheriff’s Deputies, but the pursuit later ended.

“They were able to ping the location of his cell phone,” said Officer Billie Ingles of the Pekin Police Department. “Once they did that, Pekin located him. Was on a short slow speed pursuit. He ended up in the parking lot here. There was somewhat of a standoff here….he refused to get out the vehicle. He was then taken into custody.”

An official with Amy’s Country Manor tells us they did go on lockdown due to the standoff, but that was later lifted.

Authorities add the situation never left the parking lot, and the suspect turned himself in.

It is unclear what charges he faces at this time.

Expect heavy police presence and possible road blockage near the 2900 block of the 14th street.
