Kirk Zimmerman’s ex-girlfriend testifies that “he was home” on night Pam Zimmerman was shot

On the 13th day of Kirk Zimmerman’s murder trial, we heard testimony about where he was and what he was doing on the night his ex-wife was killed.
Kate Arthur was Kirk Zimmerman’s girlfriend at the time Pam Zimmerman was killed. She had plans to meet Kirk Zimmerman at his home at 7 pm the night of November 3, 2014. The same night police say Pamela Zimmerman was shot four times in her downtown office.
Arthur testified she left her BodyPump class early and went to Zimmerman’s home around 6:30. She rang the doorbell – no one answered. She found the front and back doors locked, with the TV on. She called Kirk but got no answer. She went back to her car and waited, texting him at 6:48 pm. Here’s the exchange:
6:48 PM Nov. 3, 2014
From: Kate Arthur
“Tried to call and rang your doorbell. if I don’t hear from u in a few mins I’ll assume your not home and call it a night.”
7:02 PM Nov. 3, 2014
From: Kirk Zimmerman
“My bad. Laid down to read in bed…too early! Can I come by or ?”
Arthur then said she went back to Zimmerman’s house where they hung out until about 9 that night. In a statement that was stricken from the record, Arthur said Zimmerman was home the whole time.
During an on-record conversation outside the jury, the State argued with the Defense over impeaching their own witness. The prosecution objected to the line of questioning Defense Attorney John Rogers was pursuing with Arthur. It was said by Rogers that Arthur paid $100,000 of Kirk Zimmerman’s bond back in 2015. This was part of the information they wished to keep from the jury, for fear of creating a bias.
Pam Zimmerman’s former divorce lawyer also took the stand this morning and explained a phone call she had with Pam the morning Pam was shot. She spoke with Pam at 10:25 am, just hours before the deadly shooting.
Kraft said they spoke about how Kirk still had not paid child support, around $4000. Kraft testified that Pam Zimmerman wanted to pursue contempt of court for Kirk Zimmerman. She also mentioned to Kraft that she had sent documentation to Kirk via FedEx but had not heard from him, according to Kraft.
The prosecution used Kraft’s testimony to support their theory that Zimmerman couldn’t or didn’t want to pay child support, so he killed his ex wife. But Kate Arthur, Kirk Zimmerman’s girlfriend at the time of Pam’s death, vouched for Kirk… saying he was home at the time. She also testified that Zimmerman never expressed any hostility toward his ex wife – when she saw him the night Pam died she says he was his usual, happy self. The trial continues tomorrow morning in McLean County Court.
