PEORIA, Ill. (HOI) — No one was injured after lightning struck a wing of the plane transporting veterans headed to Washington, D.C. on the Greater Peoria Honor Flight.
Lightning blew a hole in the wing, according to Mason Dowling, a Heart of Illinois ABC reporter/anchor accompanying veterans on today’s flight. The plane landed without incident in the nation’s capital. Central Illinois veterans will return home on a different plane this evening, he said.
Rich Van Norman II caught the lightning strike on camera, as his dad, and veteran, Dick Van Norman looked out the window.
