BREAKING – Archbishop Fulton Sheen’s remains to return to Peoria

The fight over where Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen’s remains will be interred appears to finally be over.

Peoria Public Radio reports New York’s Court of Appeals sided with Sheen’s family, meaning the Archbishop’s remains will be returned to Peoria where he was first ordained in 1919.

The Catholic News Agency quotes a spokesperson for the Archdiocese of New York, who says the state is out of legal options and can no longer challenge the move.

Though Sheen wanted to be buried in New York, his family and the Diocese argued his pending beatification is an overriding concern.
