BREAKING: One dead, several hurt in Rt. 116 crash

(UPDATE): Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood has identified the victim as Jozcelyn Lesones, 18, of Elmwood.

Harwood reports she was waiting to turn into her driveway when a pickup truck hit her from behind.

Note: Harwood initially reported Lesones as being 19 years old, then corrected to 18. The original story has been changed to reflect the correction.

A woman has been killed and several others injured after a multi-car accident on Route 116 Saturday.

Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell reports that accident happened around 11:30AM just west of Stone School Road.

A combined total of 6 people between three cars were involved in the accident; one, only identified as a 18-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other five victims are being treated at local hospitals. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

Sheriff Asbell says the office’s preliminary investigation found the at-fault vehicle rear-ended the woman’s vehicle as it slowed to make a turn.

Both were heading westbound. An eastbound vehicle then struck the two after the initial impact.
