Hundreds gather to say farewell to beloved Washington coach

Coach Kevin Brown lost a yearlong battle with brain cancer on Tuesday. Sunday hundreds of friends, family, and former players poured into Washington Community High School to say farewell, one last time. His casket was inside the gymnasium where funeral home staff allowed about forty people at a time in to visit with his family and pay their respects. Hundreds of chairs were set up in front of trophies, pictures, and a video tribute to Coach Brown in a waiting area.

Brown coached baseball and basketball during his fifteen year career at Washington. Former star basketball player at Washington Alec Peters remembers his toughness as a coach, and carries lessons learned still today. “I’m still playing today so there’s many things that I look back and I remember he’s preaching at me and I still sometimes see him on the sideline, yelling at me, getting on me about certain little things,” Peters explained.

Other former players we spoke with say Brown leaves behind a legacy of toughness and intensity as a coach, and love and loyalty as a man.
