PEKIN (HOI) – The severe thunderstorms late Saturday caused a tree to collapse on a car in Pekin. In the sixteen hundred block of Florence Ave. Neighborhood residents were expecting debris but not vehicle damage.
“I left about eleven thirty to run to the store and saw that one of the cars had been hit here in the neighborhood a tree had fallen on it and my first reaction was should I knock on the door should I go tell them it’s been hit, I’m sure they already knew it had been hit, then I thought it was a lot worse then we thought the storm was initially,” said neighbor Holly Simpson.
The damage in Pekin was attributed to straight line thunderstorms winds, not a tornado. Although two EF-1 Tornadoes occurred Saturday night in Central Illinois. One was near South Pekin (Tazewell County), and the other near Bellflower (McLean County).
