UnityPoint Health Pekin will no longer deliver babies, adding other specialty services

PEKIN (HOI) – UnityPoint Health announced Tuesday they’ll be shifting their labor and delivery services from Pekin to Peoria only.

In a press release, they said the number of expectant mother patients continue to decline in Pekin, saying many are choosing their Peoria location for deliveries already.

UnityPoint Health also said the consolidation will provide access to better care, “including a Level 2 special care nursery and 24/7 onsite obstetric and neonatologist coverage.”

That consolidation is effective September 17, 2019.

In addition, UnityPoint Health said they are exploring OB/GYN care at Pekin and Pekin East. They said they are also adding new specialty physicians in Pekin in the areas of Gastroenterology, Infectious Disease, Neurology, Palliative Care, and Urology.

Some more changes coming to Pekin; they said they will unveil a renovated lobby, main entrance, and gift shop soon. It’s part of an $8 million project.

UnityPoint Health declined our request for an interview about the changes.
