The fireworks at Glen Oak Park are always spectacular, but the evening is about much more than the big booming show. People from across the city came together for a night of fun.
It may be a day before America’s birthday, but the Glen Oak Park celebration is a family tradition that never disappoints.
Fireworks, the band, and then food haha” said long time attendee Mary Nancy
That tradition is even stronger for Talbert Heinz. He started working the snow cone machine for Old Timers Baseball when he was 10 years old.
“I come out every 3rd of July I love scooping the ice and I just cannot get off the machine, even people want to take a break I can’t get away for a sandwich I just enjoy it so much.” said Heinz
2 year old Taelynn enjoyed her first trip to the celebration with plenty of patriotic face paint. The small joys that bring a family together.
“Family is the most important, we love spending our time with the family during the holidays and just getting out and enjoying it.” said Lisa Butcher
Many organizations helped raise money for next years fireworks display, showing the power of a community when it comes together.
“It’s been an amazing experience as an adult and then our teens get to understand the sense and of Community it’s not all about being given to but also to give back to the city.” said Karen Jackson, from Peoria City Life
A city many are proud to be a part of … especially on a night like this .
“It is a wonderful time to remind ourselves that even though there’s trouble we can get together for days like this and just enjoy ourselves like we ought to everyday of the year.” said celebration attendee Wes Brooks
