Peoria’s “Red, White, and Boom” is the biggest firework show in Illinois, but with that comes a lot of traffic.
So, police on both sides of the river are making sure people get to and from the event safely.
But be prepared: the Bob Michel Bridge will be shut down starting around 10:45 PM in both directions from Peoria and East Peoria.
The East Peoria Police Chief says the closure will help alleviate some of the riverfront congestion.
“You’re going to want to go to I-74, then you’ll need to go eastbound. You’ll need to go probably to Main Street,” Chief Steve Roegge advised, “If you’re trying to get back to Peoria, then we’ll be reccommending the Cedar Street Bridge to get back across after the event.”
The Red, White, and Boom fireworks show kicks off at 9:30 PM and wrap up around 10:00 PM.
