Governor J.B. Pritzker signs bill for first responders

Springfield (HOI) – Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a bill that will help first responders with mental health.

The First Responders Suicide Prevention Act provides that any emergency or public safety employee can refer any fellow first responder for mental health services. This will be through an employee assistance or peer counseling program.

The bill was drafted over two years ago, and picked up traction after several first responder suicides in Illinois.
