DOWNERS GROVE, IL. (HOI) – Illinois State Police said they arrested and charged 43-year-old Volodymyr Dragan, of Wheeling, IL. for shooting an ISP Trooper.
Police said it all started Thursday, Aug. 15, at a traffic stop on I-294. State Police said around 1:30 a.m. an incident went down resulting in charges of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm to a Police Officer (Class X Felony), Aggravated Unlawful Restraint (Class 2 Felony), Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer (Class 4 Felony), and Attempted Murder (Class X Felony), against Dragan.
Later that day at 6:30 p.m. officers went to his home to execute the arrest/search warrant. That’s when ISP said shots were fired from inside his home, hitting a Trooper. Dragan was ultimately arrested after the incident.
ISP’s Acting Director, Brednan Kelly said, “Our thoughts remain with the injured officer who is recovering at home with his family.”
Dragan is in custody pending a bond hearing on Aug. 17th.
