16-year-old boy shot during South Peoria armed robbery

Peoria, Ill. (HOI) – A 16-year-old boy was shot in South Peoria during one of three armed robberies across the city on Saturday.

Peoria police received a ShotSpotter alert in the 2800 block of West Ann around 6:40 p.m. Officers received a call about a shooting victim shortly after.

Police found the victim in the area of Webster and Howett. The teen told officers he was planning to sell his cellphone through the Letgo app. He said both parties agreed to meet in the 2800 block of West Ann. Police say the armed suspect shot the victim and ran away with his phone.

The victim is currently in the hospital with serious injuries, though police say he is stable.

The incident was one of three armed robberies in Saturday in Peoria.

An 18-year-old and 16-year-old were arrested after they allegedly pistol whipped a victim during another cell phone sale using the Letgo app. Police were called at 3:45 about the robbery that took place in the 800 block of W Virginia.

Then at 4:07 officers were called to the 9000 block of Allen Road. An adult female was attempting to sell an Apple watch and cellphone on Facebook. When she arrived at the designated location the suspect allegedly pepper sprayed her and took the items.

The suspect is described as a black female.

Peoria Police want to remind the public that the Police Station lobby and parking lot can be used for safe transactions.
