Surprise for Peoria County Veteran brings him to tears

Bill and Karen Cole have needed a new roof on their home in Bellevue for years. Sunday, family and friends brought the community together to give them what they needed.

Bill Cole walked outside thinking some people were coming over to watch Bears football Sunday afternoon. But when he looked, he saw over twenty people and dozens of vehicles. They were all there to repair his roof.

River City Roofing owner Tim Garrison found out about the Cole’s need through word of mouth. “He had leaks for quite sometime. Very damaging for the wood and the structure inside. So it was a little more work than anticipated but it’s going to be in good shape now,” he explained.

“It’s nice to see so many people want to give back to the veterans,” said Garrison.

Bill Cole and his disabled wife Karen have been unable to repair the roof themselves. He was brought to tears when describing how he felt to see the outpouring of the community during Veteran’s Day weekend.
