Police: Wisconsin high school student shot after pointing handgun at officers

WAUKESHA, Wisc. (WKOW) — A Waukesha South High School student was shot and injured by police Monday morning after the student pointed a weapon at a school resource officer.

Our sister station WKOW reports the officer responded at about 10:15 a.m. when told that a student had a handgun at the school.

Waukesha Police Chief Russel Jack said in a news conference the officer attempted to secure the classroom and get other students to safety.

Waukesha police officers and sheriff’s deputies responded to get the student to hand over the gun.

The student, 17, then pointed the handgun at the officers, resulting in an officer an officer shooting the student, Jack said.

Officers on scene immediately began lifesaving measures, said Jack.

The remaining students were evacuated from the classroom and the school was placed on lockdown procedures.

Jack said the student is in stable condition at an area hospital. No officers or deputies were injured at the scene.
