Man arrested in Peoria for allegedly beating 75-year-old woman to death

PEORIA (HOI) - Dmitri G. Rogatchev, 41, was arrested for allegedly beating a 75-year-old woman to death.

Peoria Police said the man was living with Sandra J. Jackson as her caretaker, in the 500 block of NE Monroe.

Police initially got the call Tuesday at 2:29 a.m. about an unconscious woman who was still breathing. Paramedics took her to OSF St. Francis, where they determined her injuries were serious. Around 6:19 a.m. the hospital took a call mentioning some possible abuse to the elderly woman.

After this, police began investigating and arrested Rogatchev for Aggravated Domestic Battery.

That afternoon, Jackson was pronounced dead at OSF. According to the Peoria County Coroner, Jackson's autopsy revealed she died from severe intracranial hemorrhages in her brain. Those injuries came from blunt force trauma. The coroner went on to say the death is being investigated as a homicide.

On Wednesday, Rogatchev was brought back to the police station to be interviewed and was ultimately arrested for First Degree Murder. This marks the city's 23rd homicide.
