Havana (HOI) -- Two dogs and two cats died in a house fire on the 300 block of East Dearborn in Havana Friday night.

John Kachanuk, Havana's fire chief, says no people were inside. He said had they left the home around 20 minutes before the fire started. The fire department got the call at 5:27 p.m.

Flames could be seen shooting into the night sky from several streets away. Kachanuk says it took his crews around 15 minutes to get the fire under control. He says it was spilling out of a first floor window and had spread to the second floor.

The cause is being investigated.
