Pekin to discuss regulating gas, electric powered bicycles

PEKIN (HOI) – The Pekin City Council is considering an ordinance regulating low-speed gas and electric powered bicycles.

According to the city council agenda packet, residents within the city owning and operating a powered bicycle will have to pay a registration fee of $15/year and receive a sticker. Late fees are an extra $10.

Ordinance violations range from $200-750 and if you find your powered bicycle impounded, its $150 to release it.

The city council will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Monday to discuss the potential ordinance.
