PEORIA (HOI) – A death from November is being investigated as a homicide.
60-year-old Nancy Vorrath was found unresponsive and not breathing by medics when Peoria police as well as firefighters and AMT responded to reports of an unresponsive female at 1 p.m. on November 23, according to a release from Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.
Her husband, 63-year-old Michael L. Vorrath, was advised the death was ruled a homicide and was taken into custody without incident, according to a release from the Peoria Police Department.
He was arrested for first degree murder and transported to the Peoria County Jail.
Despite aggressive resuscitative efforts, Vorrath was pronounced deceased at her residence at 2:07pm.
Autopsy findings on Vorrath demonstrate that she died from drowning; she also suffered multiple, and significant blunt force injuries, consistent with inflicted trauma.
Police were advised the victim was found in a water filled utility sink and unresponsive.
Her toxicology report was benign.
The death is being investigated as a homicide and remains under investigation by the Peoria Police Department.
Vorrath worked on-and-off for EP!C over the last 12 years, where she was named employee of the month in August, according to the company.
This marks the 25th homicide of 2019.
