Peoria (HOI) - With just more than two weeks to go before legalization, the Peoria Heights Village Board ironed out their marijuana policy.
"We're going to mirror our alcohol policy," Trustee Jeff Goett said.
The board decided to keep limitations on marijuana the same as alcohol despite flirting with making them tougher. Cannabis dispensaries may open at least 100 feet away from schools and churches, and can be on War Memorial Dr and Prospect Ave.
Previously, the board was considering keeping them 500 feet away from schools and blocking them from Prospect Ave.
"If they wanted to come and invest a dispensary if they get a license, they're not limited to just War Memorial," Goett said. "Why cut off our feet? If we're going to do it let's have all possibilities."
