The former Richwood Knight and current Chicago Bear, Sherrick McManis played Santa Claus this year for a few lucky students at Sterling Middle School.

Thursday a handful of students from the Jaguar squad came together for an end of the year field trip that turned into the surprise of a lifetime. After playing basketball and video games they had dinner and a surprise from one of their superstars, Sherrick McManis.

McManis, recorded a video that was played for the children at Landmark where he encouraged them to stick with the right people and listen to their mentors, Andre Allen and Tye Smith.

Shortly after the video wrapped up, their mentors, Andre Allen and Tye Smith came around the corner with boxes of Christmas gifts for the group. Their faces lit up as they opened a Nintendo switch, Mario Kart game and a Jordan athletic jumpsuit!

This was all orchestrated by Andre Allen and Tye Smith, who became friends with Sherrick McManis when they all attended Sterling Middle School together. Now, they said, it's a beautiful thing that they're able to give back.

"This is a group we've been with two years now, we've gone with them every Thursday to you know, give advice about life and how to be better in school. So, you know, talking to Sherrick McManis we were just telling him a little bit about our program and he wanted to give back the community and take on some families this year so we're very happy and fortunate he chose our group," says Tye Smith, a mentor of Jaguar Squad through the Adopt a School program.

"The irony of it is we all met at Sterling Middle School too. Myself, Sherrick, Tye, Laurence. So we all grew up together so now it's just the beauty, we're adults now and able to give back to our Alma Mater, it's beautiful," says, Andre Allen, a mentor of Jaguar Squad through the Adopt a School program.
