Peoria, Il. (HOI) - A 9-year-old girl from Pontiac that spend a week in the hospital around Thanksgiving this past November knows what it's like to miss out on typical holiday traditions.
Jewel Chapman was transferred to the Children's Hospital of Illinois for a ruptured appendix. Monday, she returned to Peoria to hand out toys to kids that will still be here on Christmas.
Chapman got most of the donations from family and friends, which filled the entire car.
"I felt really bad for the kids that couldn't go home and spend Christmas at home so I just decided to give away toys so they can have a Christmas here," said Jewel Chapman.
"She always thinks of others before herself," said Patty Chapman, Jewel's aunt.
Jewel passed out toys, books and even blankets to complete strangers to bring a smile and spread Christmas cheer.
