CHICAGO (WLS) - As hundreds came out to the Sunnyside Dispensary in Wrigleyville Wednesday, one of the people who bought some marijuana product was Lt. Governor, Juliana Stratton.

Members of the media gathered around Stratton to see what she bought.

She said, "I made a purchase, I have Mindy's glazed clementine orange gummies."

One reporter asked, "and are you going to partake?"

Stratton chuckled in response, "Well, I might try one, it's legal in Illinois."

Chicago's WLS reports the store streamlined its process New Year's Day by allowing customers to fill out their order on paper as they waited in line.

One customer they spoke to bought three edibles, or cannabis infused products, and paid $150.

As a reminder, the cost of pot is more than the price tag.

Here's a breakdown of the state taxes:

  • 10% Sales tax for cannabis with less than 35% THC
  • 20% Sales tax for cannabis-infused products like edibles
  • 25% Sales tax for cannabis with at least 35% THC

These numbers do not include local city and county taxes which vary across the state.
