U.S. Congressman Darin LaHood (R) joined a crowd in honoring a group of Army Reserves being deployed from Bartonville. The 724th Transportation Company have been activated and will be deployed to Eastern Europe. Part of their mission will be to support NATO allies in Eastern Europe. The deployment is part of 'Operation Atlantic Resolve.'
Congressman LaHood said, "I was happy to be here today and to thank their families. They go through sacrifice over the next 10 months a lot, but it's because of their service and their sacrifice that we have the country that we do"
"It's more of a toll on my family. It's more of a stress of leaving them. It's not so much of an excitement of where I'm going or what I'm doing. I kinda already know how everything goes. It's just leaving the family that really matters," explained James Lowe as he heads out on his fourth deployment.
For Captain Daniel Kovacs it's his first deployment. He explained a little bit of what their company does. "The 724 is a transportation company and we haul fuel so we're logistical support to all the maneuver units that need support for their training. A lot of preparation we put into this over the last year. Been a lot of hard work," explained Kovacs.
The company will head out Sunday and be stationed initially in Poland. Their deployment could last months.
