Durbin: Trump never mentioned Iran’s threat to attack multiple embassies in briefing

SPRINGFIELD (WJBC) – Expect the Democrats’ drive to remove President Trump from office to pick up steam this week, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) said in Springfield Sunday.

After Durbin said he expected the Speaker of the House to forward the articles of impeachment to the Senate early in the week, he added Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Democratic presidential candidates — are acting like anything but impartial jurors, saying McConnell “has stated he is working on a trial strategy with the President’s people. I believe we should do everything we can to be objective about this.”

The situation with Iran, Durbin said, presents a disconnect between what he heard and what the President said.

“The President, after our briefing, went on Fox (News Channel) and said they were threatening to attack four U.S. embassies. That never came up, and (Secretary of State Mike) Pompeo was in the briefing. So he volunteered more information in the Fox interview than we were given as members of Congress,” Durbin said.
