Despite state law, marijuana still banned on Bradley University campus

PEORIA (HOI) -- Recreational marijuana may be legal in the state of Illinois, but Bradley University says it is still banned on its campus.

In a letter to students Friday, the university said the substance is banned due to the school being a recipient of federal funding and "per the federal Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act."

The ban also includes medical marijuana.

Recreational marijuana is still illegal under federal law.

Banned is the possession, use or distribution of marijuana, "despite the new state law."

"Bradley University expects its students to report to classes free from any influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.  All students should be knowledgeable of and abide by the laws and policies that govern the institution."
