PEORIA (HOI) The Blue Duck Tavern is open for business Saturday after the Peoria Fire Department put out a costly blaze. Around 4:45 Saturday morning fire crews were dispatched to the 200 block of Water Street.

A report from across the Illinois River in East Peoria said they saw large flames on the building. Firefighters said the blaze was so intense they had to cut through several layers of roofing to contain it. They even shut down the nearby railroad for a short time in order to clear enough space to fight the fire.

No injuries were reported in the fire. The Historic building at River Station suffered an estimated $50,000 in damages. In a post on Facebook, The Blue Duck Barbecue Tavern posted a surveillance photo of someone they describe as possibly starting the fire. Peoria Fire Department and Blue Duck Tavern would not comment on whether or not this fire is being considered an arson. It is under investigation.
