PEORIA (HOI) -- Two hundred runners braved the frosty weather for an annual 5K dedicated to raising money for Family Core.
The non-profit has been providing foster care, counseling, food pantries and more to those in need for 120 years.
"It's important for people to know that there could be someone in their neighborhood that need help so just to pay it forward and show some human kindness," Family Core CEO Ann Lading-Ferguson said.
The slippery race track did not discourage runners and volunteers from coming to support local families.
"I like the idea of fostering the growth and continuation of families in our community because they're so important for keeping a cohesive community," Volunteer Rick Gentry said.
