SPRINGFIELD (WICS) - Sangamon County Coroner, Cinda Edwards, and former Springfield Alderman Frank Edwards were killed in a plane crash Tuesday.

Our ABC affiliate WICS in Springfield reports they confirmed the identities of the two crash victims with multiple sources who asked to remain anonymous.

Regarding the crash, State Senator Andy Manar said in a statement:

“My heart breaks for the families of those involved in this tragedy. Cinda and Frank Edwards were devoted public servants to the communities of Springfield and Sangamon County. I ask everyone to join me in sending heartfelt condolences to the Edwards family.” - Senator Andy Manar (D - Bunker Hill).

The plane crash happened around 3:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, near the Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport. Three people and a dog were killed.

WICS reports the airport tower and pilot were having trouble because of the weather and the plane's instruments.

After the crash, police said they could not approach the plane at first because of the flames.
