Pekin (HOIABC) -- Pekin seventh grader Drake Paul has had an unforgettable week. His 3/4-court heave not only went viral, it won his team a regional championship.
"People have been really nice, and have complimented me about that shot," Paul said. "It was crazy, one of the best feelings of my life."
We put his teammates up to the task of trying to hit his prayer shot in practice, but, as you can see in the video, lightning didn't strike again.
Paul's coach had a hard time processing the shot in the moment.
"There was a lot of things going through my mind," coach Ethan Swanson said. "First of all, we didn't run the play exactly right, so I'm kind of a little bit frustrated. Then I see the shot go in, I'm wondering if the refs are going to count it or not, cause there were only four tenths of a second, which is not a lot of time at all. Then I kind of realize, 'oh my goodness, we just won this game. That means we've won the regional championship, too!' So I'm just really proud of this team's improvement over the year."
