March 26, 2016, is a day Jim Rinella will never forget. That night, he was involved in a serious traffic accident in Normal.
"We got rear-ended. They totaled my truck and the young lady totaled her car," Jim explains to Troubleshooters.
Jim's wife, Joannem was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. Following the accident, the couple would be rewarded an injury settlement.
"I don't know how to read all this legal lingo, so it was recommended that I go to Strong Law and I did. They handled everything, and I thought everything was done and it went just as smooth as can be," said Jim.
All their expenses were taken care of, or so they thought.
"Three and a half years later, I get a letter from the town of Normal says I owe $627 dollars," Jim said.
An ambulance fee was never paid from the night of the accident. Jim needed answers so he contacted Strong Law. He says an attorney looked over the bill.
"… and said it was paid and you shouldn't be getting a bill. He told me to call the town of Normal, and find out what's going on. That's when they informed me they've been trying to get a hold of Strong Law for two and a half years to three years. Sent them four different notifications that it wasn't paid but never got a response back from them."
I called the town of Normal about this, the ambulance company handling the bill is AccuMed. AccuMed tells me the bill is pending, and has not gone to collections yet."
Jim says he went back to the Strong Law Office in person last month, but he's stilled confused about one thing. Does he have to pay out of pocket or should insurance pick up the tab.
