PEORIA (HOIABC) -- Illinois health officials say an additional 128 cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been confirmed in Illinois as of Wednesday, March 18, bringing the total to 288.
Currently, there are 17 counties in the state who have reported cases, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. The newest cases were reported in Kendall and Madison counties.
Also, an additional 20 individuals at a long-term care facility in DuPage County that is experieincing an outbreak have tested positive. The facility reports 30 residents and 12 staff have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Officials are asking social distancing measures be taken amidst the pandemic:
• Staying home as much as possible
• If gatherings are necessary, limiting the number of people to 10
• Calling to check on family, neighbors, and older adults instead of visiting
• Checking with your provider about telehealth options
As of Tuesday, March 17, the central Illinois had four confirmed cases -- three reported in Peoria County, with one in Woodford County.
