More than 3,000 COVID-19 cases reported in Illinois; eight additional deaths

(HOI) -- State health officials have announced another 488 cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported in Illinois, as well as eight deaths.

The latest announcement on Friday brings the total number of cases in the state to 3,026, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

There have now been 34 deaths in the state due to the coronavirus.

About 86% of fatalities are among patients 60 years or older.

There are now 40 counties in Illinois reporting cases. The age range for confirmed cases is younger than 1 to 99.
