PEORIA (HOI) -- In partnership with the state of Illinois, OSF Healthcare can deliver 8,400 free wellness kits a month to help monitor the health of clients experiencing COVID-19 symptoms from their home.
"Our clients our community members needed more support, so we developed a program that has a way of connecting them digitally on an ongoing basis," Senior Vice President of OSF St. Gabriel Digital Health Jennifer Junis said.
Over 100 OSF employees take shifts manning the phones for the health provider's COVID-19 Digital Response Center.
"They'd be asked a couple screening questions and based on their symptoms and those questions they'd be transferred directly over to a nurse. We'd be able to transfer them over to a provider then can also do a virtual visit," Junis said.
Clients get to keep the customized kits for up to 14 days or more depending on their situation. Pandemic Health Workers like Shannon Egli deliver them to the client's doors.
"When things get a little bit crazy, it's nice to know that you're in a program that's helping organize the crazy and helping people get better," Egli said.
Egli, an Anatomical Coordinator for Jump Simulation inside of OSF St. Francis medical center, is just one of the hundreds of employees that have changed their day-to-day to help on the Pandemic Health Worker Program.
As a fielder, Egli delivers kits filled with thermometers, pulse readers and tablets equipped with data to allow for virtual health care all around Central Illinois.
"When we get there, we put the package on their porch, go back to our car, give them a phone call and we walk through what's in the package. So, everything that is in there. We help them set up with four apps to help them monitor their wellness," he said.
The kits, Egli explained, help monitor vital signs, track symptoms and allow for virtual visits with providers, among other things.
