BLOOMINGTON-NORMAL (HOI) - The annual Lincoln Festival on Route 66 is canceled; one of the many summer events citing health concerns over COVID-19.

The event was set for July 18th this year.

In a news release, organizers said, "We did not make this decision lightly and have been closely monitoring the conditions before making our final
decision. Plans are already underway to hold the Festival again in 2021 the third weekend in July."

They said the event began in 2009 and operates as a non-profit run by volunteers. It attracts about 4,000 people per year. With the goal of educating people about history and heritage, they added Route 66 as an element of the festival in 2016.

Activities people can look forward to next year include a variety of lectures/talks, a guided tour of Lincoln sites, a strolling Lincoln impersonator, a classic car cruise-in, a Civil War camp/re-enactment, a
bicycle show, and vintage old-time baseball game.
