A slowed down cold front moving through a moisture rich environment will provide an opportunity for shower and thunderstorm development this afternoon. Given a high amount of low level wind shear, severe storms can't be ruled out east of the Illinois River.
Our severe weather threat will begin around lunchtime and continue through about 6 PM when the cold front moves to our east.
Given the wind shear present this afternoon, a couple of tornadoes can't be ruled out this afternoon. High winds and hail could also be present in any severe storms.
The highest chances for any severe weather today will be east of the Illinois River.
Make sure you have ways to recieve any severe weather warnings, including a NOAA Weather Radio and our Heart of Illinois ABC app. You can also track storms using interactive radar on our app.
We'll have the latest updates throughout the day on-air and on social media.
