(HOI) -- You might be tempted to take the boat out on the water for this Memorial Day weekend, but that's not allowed on the Illinois River.
And it's not COVID-19 related.
The coast guard shut the river is closed to recreational boaters as of Thursday because of our cresting water levels.
The area that's closed runs between Lacon and Kingston Mines.
Aside from floating debris, a conservation officer says there are other dangers.
"There's electrical power there's outlet boxes at a lot of our camp grounds that are still sometimes hot and that's just a hidden concern that people aren't always mindful of just a hidden danger that people don't always think about," said Isaac Gerard, conservation police officer.
Once Phase 3 of Governor Pritzker's Restore Illinois plan does start May 29, up to 10 people can be in one boat.
Until then , only two people are allowed per boat.
