PEORIA (HOI) -- Members of the Illinois National Guard could be called to help Peoria Police keep things under control.

On Sunday, Gov. JB Pritzker activated 375 Illinois National Guard members to help Chicago Police in a disaster proclamation to protect against looting and violent protests.

The next day, Gov. Pritzker added five counties and an additional 250 soldiers to that disaster proclamation.

The order lists Peoria, Lake, Rock Island, Williamson, and Stephenson Counties as representing "a threat for looting or destruction through planned protests, [a] home to critical infrastructure, or where the state has received requests for state assistance or resources."

The activated guardsmen will work on an 'as-needed' basis.

Most of the troops who would be assisting in Peoria are currently stationed in Peoria with the 182nd Airlift Wing at the airport.

Illinois State Police are in charge of coordinating and dispersing the troops to help local law enforcement agencies.
