Washington police make arrest in Monday homicide investigation

UPDATE (4 p.m.) -- Washington Police Chief Mike McCoy says one person is in custody in connection to a homicide investigation on Monday afternoon.

The Washington Police Department, Illinois State Police and Tazewell County Sheriff's Office were on scene near an apartment building on Holland Street for the investigation.

Police were called to check the welfare of a person in his residence on Holland Street at about 12:30 p.m. Monday, according to a release.

When officers arrived, they located a deceased male.

McCoy said more information will be released at a 10 a.m. Tuesday press conference and there is no indication of a danger to the public in relation to the incident.

No other details were released on the victim or the person arrested.

This will be the second homicide in Washington in a month.

On June 17, officers discovered the body of 34-year-old Kyle McMurtrey behind Washington Plaza. Law enforcement officials they are investigating his death as a homicide, but suspect information was released and no arrests have been made.

Photos from the scene show an apartment building taped off with police officers around the building.

1470 also reported residents at the apartment complex said investigators were knocking on doors, asking for any information available.
