CREVE COEUR (HOI) -- Police in Creve Coeur say they're cracking down hard on illegal fireworks and the people shooting them off.
In an early morning Facebook post, CCPD says, "We have tried to be patient with people and their fireworks but it’s gotten way out of hand."
The post says anyone caught lighting fireworks will be arrested and their fireworks confiscated.
If you see someone light them, or if you are "disturbed" by them, police say you should call the department at (309) 699-9511.
The post adds that officers can only make an arrest if they see the fireworks themselves or if a citizen files a formal complaint.
In a separate Facebook post, CCPD says a local fireworks store was selling fireworks that were "illegal by village ordinance but not by state law."
The temporary store is located at Main and Fischer in Creve Coeur.
Since police visited the store, however, village trustees have agreed to amend that ordinance to align with state law.
"Illinois State approved fireworks will be allowed on Friday July 3rd and Saturday July 4th until 11:00 pm each day. Any other days, any unapproved fireworks or anything lit later than 11:00 pm will be a violation with a fine from $200-$750."Creve Coeur Police Dept. Facebook page
Approved or "consumer" fireworks do not include fireworks that make loud booms, but there are some that shoot beautiful displays in the air.
The post continues, "We will be enforcing any violations which are outside of the approved time limits, or involve unapproved fireworks."
