EAST PEORIA (HOI) - Two juveniles were taken into police custody Friday, one of them caught by a citizen, for allegedly stealing a pair of handguns in a "smash and grab" robbery.

East Peoria Mayor John Kahl said two juvenile boys broke the glass-enclosed gun case at Bass Pro Shops just before noon, and took off with what were believed to be two handguns.

A citizen tackled one of the suspects in the parking lot. Police caught the other suspect, according to the mayor. He said no one was hurt.

East Peoria Police Chief Steve Roegge was not available for comment because of the holiday.
