PEORIA (HOI) - Many fireworks shows across Central Illinois were canceled over 4th of July weekend. But that hasn't stopped folks from lighting off their own in 2020.

Peoria Police say they've received 297 fireworks complaints from January 1 through July 2. This number does not include 4th of July weekend. Peoria Police say over the same stretch in 2019 there were only 54 complaints of fireworks.

All but 18 of the complaints this year came during the month of June. From our traffic and weather camera looking over the city of Peoria, dozens of 'firework shows' could be seen over the holiday weekend.

Peoria police have 'taken action' on 59 fireworks complaints in 2020. An action can be defined as a report, citation, or arrest. That's more than the number of complaints total (54) for the same time period in 2019.

Peoria police said they will have updated statistics including the weekend complaints on Monday, July 6.
