(NORMAL) HOI – Connect transit riders won't have to worry about paying a bus far until September 8th, 2020.
The company's Board of Trustees voted to extend their initial fare suspension which began mid March as an effort to eliminate contact between bus riders and operators.
This free rides include fixed-route bus service, Connect Mobility paratransit service and all transporation options offered by Connect Transit.
The company also plans to operate at a reduced service schedule to allow employees to thoroughly clean the buses and surrounding facilities.
In a press release shared Wednesday, the company reiterated information shared when the Covid-19 pandemic first emerged, explaining their buses are cleaned, sanitized, and exchanged several times throughout the day to ensure passenger safety while riding.
The release also reminded the public that Connect Transit monitors information about COVID-19 from the CDC and the Illinois Public Health Department.
Connect Transit also stated they encourage people to stay home if they're sick, refrain from using the bus service if they can, wash their hands regularly and to continue social distancing while using their facilities.
