PEORIA (HOI) -- Three additional novel coronavirus cases are being reported at the Peoria County Jail, bringing the total number of inmates to test positive to 37.
Peoria County Sheriff Brian Asbell announced Friday the three additional cases were a result of inmates being retested after testing negative.
Asbell says 197 inmates tested negative on the first round. Of those, 79 results have been received back and three of those were positive.
About 115 tests at the jail are "outstanding" -- either awaiting results or those who need to be tested again.
Asbell said there are no new positive tests among employees.
"The jail remains on lockdown and we are continuing to work with the Peoria City/County Health Department to mitigate exposure risks and properly treat anyone infected," said Asbell.
