(HOI) - An area youth sports organization is giving up on a fall sports season due to restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Junior Football League of Central Illinois' Board of Directors voted Thursday to cancel the season.
A news release said the board took the action because state guidelines "prohibited athletes from participating in our league's activities."
"We exhausted all efforts to safely provide a fall season, but due to restrictions beyond our control, were unable to do so," said JFLOCI Executive Director Zo Evans.
The league said it has the option of having a spring season, but it's too early to make that decision.
The organization offers programs in tackle and flag football, and cheerleading.
