EAST PEORIA (HOI) -- Sports betting in Illinois is live and betters can now place their wages in person at the Par-A-Dice Casino in East Peoria.
The casino had its first in-person bet placed Thursday morning -- a $20 gamble on the St. Louis Cardinals winning the World Series.
The FanDuel Par-A-Dice Sportsbook holds three betting windows, six self-service kiosks and 14 odds and promotion screens.
A mobile version for sports betting is also available through FanDuel Par-A-Dice Sportsbook, that went live at the end of August.
Cori Rutherford, vice president and general manager of Par-A-Dice says it's nice for the casino to offer something new during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I'd say try it. I'd say it's one of those things where they make it pretty easy for you and we have a great team that can show you how to place," Rutherford said.
Betters will be able to place wages across professional football, basketball, baseball, golf, MMA, soccer and tennis.
Due to capacity restrictions set in place by the pandemic, the site currently limited to 50% capacity. Face masks are required for entry.
"I think one thing people need to understand is it doesn't just help East Peoria, it helps the Peoria region as a whole," said East Peoria Mayor John Kahl.
As for the first wager placed on the Cardinals winning the World Series, Kahl said, "I think it's awesome and I told him congratulations. He's a smart man."
